As you give your heart this Valentine's Day, remember to make sure you're taking good care of it as well. With the hustle and bustle of the day-to-day, we sometimes forget to pause and make sure we're taking proper care of ourselves. This February: American Heart Month, take time to take care of your heart and discover new ways to give your heart the love and care it deserves.

Small Changes for a Stronger Heart

Major lifestyle shifts are not always easy, and not always necessary, for better heart health. Discover a few easy changes that could make a big impact in your heart health below.

Rekindle the Flame with your Physician.

Make sure you maintain regular check-ups with your doctor, even if you don't currently feel sick. With regular visits, you can be proactive and set goals for improving your heart health to live a fuller, healthier life.

Get Your Blood Pumping.

Add exercise to your daily routine. For example, start off your month by walking 15 minutes, 3 times a week. By the end of the month, you may find yourself doubling your time without even realizing it.

Love Your Body - Feed it Good Food.

Try out some new healthy recipes to give your heart the nutrients it needs. Find heart-healthy meals online and try cooking them at home about 3 times a week to have better control of healthy substitutions. (For example, fresh or dried herbs and spices can be used in substitution for sodium.)

Say "See Ya" to the Cigs.

If you're a smoker, trying ditching the cigarettes altogether. Though it may seem like a daunting task, it's well worth it, as quitting can drastically cut your risk for heart disease and stroke! (Find more information here.)

Be Diligent with your Doses.

Talk with your doctor about high blood pressure and cholesterol medications to make sure you're taking the correct doses, in the right routine.
